PGDip/MSc Water
Pollution Control
This course is designed to provide students with the knowledge and technical skills to manage water pollution arising from both diffuse and point sources. The course is also appropriate for students wishing to address the issues encountered by public and private employers who are concerned with the regulation and management of waste and water resources.
The programme educational aims are as follows:
From the taught modules;
- Provide students with opportunities to focus on controlling water pollution in rivers, lakes and seas.
- Equip students with the tools and knowledge necessary for the collection and interpretation of water quality and quantity data.
- Enable students to be able to critically appraise the existing procedures and models for water pollution control management and suggest improvements.
- Equip students with the knowledge and tools to liase confidently with other professionals, regulators, water users and other interested parties on water pollution control matters and on measures necessary to achieve water quality and environmental objectives.
From the MSc dissertation, additionally;
- Further develop student expertise in specific aspects of water pollution management.
- Develop the capability to integrate the results of detailed studies to reach conclusions in holistic problems of sustainability.
- Enable students to acquire tools to operate in senior positions of leadership and decision-making in the water and regulatory sector.
- Enable students to acquire an academic qualification recognised by relevant professional bodies.

Study
Duration
Full
time: The course duration is 12 months, from September
to October of the following year. Students attend classes mainly
on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Part-Time:
The part-time course has a minimum duration of 2½
years. Students attend classes mainly one day per week (Mondays
or Tuesdays) in Years 1 and 2.
