PGDip/MTech in Environmental Biotechnology
MTech Environmental Biotechnology
Total for taught modules (PGDip award): 120 credits
Total for the award of MSc: 180 credits
Students on the MTech programme will gain experience in the use of a wide range of biotechnology tools and techniques to analyse and solve environmental problems. There is a strong emphasise on the engineering application of environmental biotechnology.
The programme educational aims are as follows:
- To employ engineering and technological concepts, principles and methodologies in the environmental application of biotechnology.
- To exhibit a knowledge and understanding of the social, economic and legislative impact of biotechnology as applied to environment protection, pollution control and waste management.
- To integrate theoretical and practical tools for the development of ‘cleaner’ industrial processes having little or no adverse impact to the environment.
- To apply mathematical and computational skills in analysing and providing solutions to environmental problems.
- To develop the ability to conduct independent engineering-based investigations within a chosen area, or areas, of environmental biotechnology and to demonstrate the skills for planning, executing, reporting and presenting the results of these investigations.
- To design, test and optimise the best practical solution to environmental problems.
- To develop those employment skills and characteristics associated with highly qualified professionals with relevant technical experience and to aspire to Membership of an appropriate chartered institute of engineering (eg: Chartered Engineer, MICE, etc).
